Miles and Sarah have a lovely house in the New Forest. With the family increasing to 4 children it was clear that more space was needed and their decision was to remodel the current house, adding on a full height extension to be an open plan family living space.

The brief to Stewart was to provide a kitchen design ideal for family cooking, yet blend into the background when the dining and lounge areas were in use. The result is the kaolin laminate b3 kitchen seen here. The perfect geometry of the shapes, handle free units and flush hob all contribute to the unobtrusiveness of the kitchen. The extensive granite worktop adds some colour and texture whilst providing plenty of preparation surface.

In the background two tall cabinets flank the secondary work area above a 900mm Gaggenau oven. One cupboard houses a large family fridge and the other is for additional storage. Clever use of drawers in the island makes primary storage simple. The lowered ceiling detail over the island conceals the extractor.

All of this sits quietly within the living room, facing out towards the dining table and the lounge and allowing Miles and Sarah to watch the children playing both inside and out, even when they are cooking. They also enjoy from their kitchen Hampshire country views.

Stewart asked if they needed additional space for washing clothes, dishes, and children's' muddy boots. Sarah agreed that the original kitchen would make an ideal utility area, useful for all the washing functions and for storing rarely used items such as vases.
