Major enhancement to a Victorian House in Clapham

The clients were referred to bulthaup Winchester from a client of ours in Hampshire. The family own a big detached Edwardian house near Clapham Common and planned a full refurbishment including a large glass extension at the back, plus basement under the full footprint of the house. Working with JKW Design Architects the clients drew up the kitchen outline. Our Design Consultant listened to their aims for a big open family space to suit their young children and hospitable lifestyle.

Whilst wanting a high quality stylish kitchen they were also keen to have a timeless minimal kitchen design that would look good as the family needs changed over the years. The kitchen looks towards the garden through the dining and lounge areas.

The end design is a sharp looking b3 kitchen in Alpine White laminate with an island overhang to create a bar and glass wall panels to reflect light back into the room. A row of bulthaup white glass 'function boxes' at the back of the work surface cleverly contain chopping board and knives, herb pots, kitchen towel and extra storage.

A carefully chosen blend of integrated Gaggenau, Sub Zero and Miele ovens, fridge, coffee machine and dish washer ensure the functional aspects of the kitchen. The architect's skylight over the white bulthaup table has become a point of focus; a grouping of 8 white hanging cupboards formed a 'zen wall' behind the table.

The space works well. There is plenty of space for all the family functions together - cooking, eating, playing, reading and having fun - yet the room can quickly become a chic space for entertaining.
